The Pros and Cons of Free Blogs
Do you want a free blog? Getting a blog completely free isn't as hard as you might think it is. In this article, I will talk about the two major free blogging platforms and then discuss some pros and cons of using a free blog.
Wordpress
Wordpress.org provides free hosted blogs. It is easy to use and has a lot of nice and fun themes you can add to your blog and it can be customized to look very snazzy if you know what you are doing with it. You can also have your own theme created with your blog and make it more of your own.
Blogger
Blogger is another easy to use platform supported by Google. I used it for many years without any issues. Blogger does have limits to its ability to be customized but it can be set up to earn money for you. Wordpress won’t let you make money off your blog unless you are hosting the blog on your own server.
Other Platforms
There are many other websites that offer free blogging. LiveJournal, Blog.com, and Thoughts.com all offer free blogs. There are numerous other options but I recommend Blogger as the best default choice for those that don't know what to choose.
If you're serious about this blogging thing, I want to warn you that their are some pitfalls with setting up a free blog vs. a self hosted blog.
One negative aspect to free blogs is the lack of customization. A self hosted blog can manifest to any image or basically any content you want. Free blogs have limits to them.
Another problem is you do not truly own the blog. The blogging company owns the blog and if they decide to shut you down, change, or go out of business, you're at their mercy in terms of what happens to your site.
Third, blogs that are free typically don't have the same natural search engine pull as a blog with your own host and your own domain.
Considering go for a professional blog? Start by getting a domain name like yourname.com or something catchy. By foregoing a subdomain on one of the aforementioned free blogging platforms (looks like myblogname.blogspot.com for example) and buying a domain name, you can automatically make yourself look more professional.

Good hub!
It's also worth noting that you can't put adverts (Google ads) on a free wordpress blog. So if you do end up with a lot of traffic, you can't generate any revenue easily.
